Making the Big Move

May 24, 2019

Congratulations, you just bought a new home! You may be feeling excited until you realize you need to move all of the belongings you’ve accumulated over the course of your life. You don’t have to let the daunting task of packing and moving take away the excitement of buying a new home because we have tips to make moving a breeze! Follow these simple tips for a stress-free move.

Gather the Supplies You Need

Before you can start packing up your things, you need the necessary supplies to do so. Get plenty of boxes and/or bins to put your items in. You likely will need more boxes than you think so don’t be afraid to get plenty of them. You’ll also want to get pens or markers, tape, labels and packing paper.

Label Each Box

Labeling boxes is an easy way to keep track of where you packed certain items. You could also label each box with which room it should go in to make unpacking go quicker once you arrive at your new place.

Don’t Procrastinate

Nothing will make moving day more stressful than not being fully prepared. Beginning to pack the day-of is a big no-no. Sure you may have a few things here and there you may need to pack on the day you move, but you’ll want to do the majority of packing ahead of time. A good strategy you can use is setting aside one hour a day to focus on packing, so you don’t have to knock everything out at once.

Declutter

There is no better time to get rid of stuff you no longer need than right before a move. For one, you will have less to pack and carry over to your new place. Secondly, you will no longer be hoarding items that take up precious space in your home. You don’t need to toss all of these unwanted items; you could sell them or even donate!

Pack a Bag with Essentials

Keep a separate bag with things you may need on moving day or for the next few days. Essentials include things like toiletries, toothbrushes, phone chargers, some clothes, etc.

We hope that these few tips help make your move a little easier so you can relax and enjoy your new home!
