Wisconsin property owners avoid ... Posted by Katie Huebschen, First Weber Group

That was the cry of the WRA and local Realtors to the state government in 2007. And thankfully, this lobbying and activism worked. The proposal to double the real estate transfer tax was removed from the state budget recently. Also, according to a Wisconsin Realtors Association (WRA) Press release: "Homeowners should also be pleased with a a separate provision in the compromise budget that limits annual property tax increases to 2 percent or the growth in value due to new construction, whichever is greater. With a similar state law having expired earlier this year, the new property tax 'freeze' will provide immediate tax relief for taxpayers who might have otherwise faced significantly larger property tax bills this December." TWO pieces of good news for Wisconsin property owners. Hey, we'll take that anyday! Thursday, October 18. 2007

Comments (0) Trackbacks (0) Insight into the economy - real estate is an important factor and still a good long term investmentI don't think a lot of people ever thought how important real estate is to the nation's economy until things started to slow down. Now the talk is the rage. But real estate IS cyclical. Things will come around again. And during tough times comes opportunity too. Here is an Excellent overview of the economic situation we are facing. An except from the linked article by Lawrence Yun, Vice President, NAR Research states: "Those investing in a home and keeping it for a typical holding period of six to ten years will likely see their investment pay off; those homes will have been a good investment." You always hear that about investments - think long term. A home is an investment. The prices are low for investors right now... so snap up a good buy while they are out there. What is your opinion? Tuesday, October 16. 2007

Comments (0) Trackbacks (0) Some of the most valuable home improvements when selling are FREERefreshing thought - when people think home improvement they usually think big and see dollar signs. So sellers, if your First Weber agent hasn't mentioned these things to you already, read this "Top 5 free things" post and give these valuable decluttering techniques a try. Sometimes the simpliest things work the best. After you have created a fresh look for your home that is , what do you do with all the stuff? Donate it to Goodwill, have a garage sale (I really need to do that myself come spring) or call 1-800-gotjunk and tell them First Weber sent you! Tuesday, October 9. 2007

Comments (0) Trackbacks (0) Real Estate statistics for August from REALTORS Association of South Central WisconsinThe following information was received from John Deininger, EVP of the REALTORS Association of South Central Wisconsin and South Central Wisconsin MLS Corporation.
We are seeing a trend toward a more traditional number of active listings. All of our reporting counties show a decline in the rate new listings are coming in, which has stabilized the size of the available inventory. Sales have lagged behind 2006 levels in most of our Counties, but the region has fared better than many parts of the country.
Thank you for the stats, John. Tuesday, October 2. 2007
Where do you get your Wisconsin Real ... Posted by Katie Huebschen, First Weber Group

(publisher of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel and numerous other newspapers) announced today it was offering voluntary buyouts to employees in hopes of reducing staff anywhere from 35-50 workers. As more people turn to the web for Wisconsin news, Wisconsin auto ads and Wisconsin real estate, revenues have dropped. I wonder how other local papers are being affected by similar forces and how much people in Sun Prairie, Waukesha, Wausau, Rhinelander and more communities depend on their local papers for news and real estate anymore. I could probably check circulation numbers myself, but would rather hear from our readers… Do you subscribe to your local paper? Do you use it to find real estate for sale in your area? Or do you go to the websites of some of the leading REALTORS in your area to search instead? Or do you look both places? Drop us a comment.
