Granite falling out of favor?! Interesting article about what's the next big thing in countertops found at the zillow blog. I can imagine people remodeling now may be considering newer choices in addition to the popular granite but I can't imagine anyone scoffing at an existing kitchen with beautiful granite counters. At least not in Wisconsin, and not yet! What do you think?

Comment (1) Trackbacks (0) Wisconsinites like it here2007 U.S. Census data reveals 75% of Wisconsin's current population (U.S. born) was born in Wisconsin. That ranks Wisconsin 7th nationally for the percentage of population that live in the state they were born. Once a Wisconsinite, always a Wisconsinite? I am one of them! My family is here - I can't see ever leaving for good. Of course we travel, but always come home. From the Journal Sentinel article on the census report: "I think people in Wisconsin are very down to earth and friendly," said Debra Usinger, the fourth generation of her family working at Usinger's Famous Sausage in Milwaukee. "There's a lot of common sense here. I love the change of seasons. The more snow the better, even though people like to complain about the weather. People feel such an identity and sense of place in Wisconsin. Why leave?" So if you are considering moving to Wisconsin, these stats are encouraging. We like it here and you may too. Comments (0) Trackbacks (0) How has the internet affected real estate & what's the market outlook over the next year... An interviewNice Q&A interview with First Weber President Bob Weber, by the Wisconsin State Journal. excerpt: Q: How has the internet and technology affected a Realtor's job? A: People have the ability to go online and research the inventory. When the buyers come in, they're much more informed and self-qualified. They have a good idea of what they want and how realistic it is to obtain. The Realtor's focus is on education and qualification to help them make the best decision. Also Q: What's the market outlook over the next year and when do you believe it will bounce back? Friday, September 19. 2008

Comments (0) Trackbacks (0) Just one of the thousands of Wisconsin's lakesTo live on a lake is the dream of many Wisconsinites. There are so many lakes in Wisconsin, doing a snapshot of all of them could take years. So we're starting with some of the larger ones. Lake Winnebago... is huge...almost 138,000 acres and it has a maximum depth of 21 feet. Located in Fond du Lac county, there are just 18 single family homes for sale on Lake Winnebago right now, with a huge price range: $225,000 up to $899,000. Click here to do a property search by map for Lake Winnebago or you could also search here for a vacation property Did you know (I bet you didn't) that the Wisconsin state record yellow perch was caught in Lake Winnebago and weighed 3 lbs, 4 oz? Comments (0) Trackbacks (0) Wisconsinites seem to know it is a good market for buyersFrom Michael Theo, Vice President of Legal & Public Affairs, WRA and a Wisconsin Homeowners Alliance statewide survey: Attitudes about the Housing Market in Wisconsin Despite negative news about housing, Wisconsinites seem to know buyer have it good right now. 72% of those surveyed in a Wisconsin Homeowners Alliance survey said its a good time to buy a home. (44% say very good, 28 say good). Only 10% say it is somewhat bad and 17% say very bad. - Respondants also think Wisconsin''s real estate market is no worse, and possibly better than the national real estate market. Only 9% think Wisconsin is worse off. - 80% responded that they are not affected by the down market. 3% say their mortgage rates have gone up. 14% say their home value has gone down. Only 1% say they have experienced foreclosure. - 40% of those who took the survey responded that it is very likely or somewhat likely that they would be buying a home in the next three years. Overall those findings are positive. Here's hoping positive attitudes and some positive news may nudge more buyers to make the move. Don't forget about the first time buyer tax credit!! If you were surveyed, how would you answer? Monday, September 15. 2008

Comments (0) Trackbacks (0) Stats for metro MLS show 5 year average sales price gainWhile it is true it is a difficult time in real estate right now, it is also true that real estate has traditionally been a smart investment and builds personal wealth. The following statistics come from quarterly reports from the Metro Milwaukee Multiple Listing Service. In all counties, the average sales price shows an increase over since 2004, a relatively short period of time. (DOM means Days on Market)
I would love to be a first time buyer out there right now. There are great properties priced so right - plus there is the first time buyer tax credit - available only for a limited time! Don't kick yourself and miss out. The credit is good through purchases made by July 9th, 2009. I can just imagine how busy the closing department will be on that day! Since it takes a few months to find a house, apply for a mortgage and prepare for closing, why not get started now? You can look anonymously at thousands of properties acorss the state at firstweber.com - even get listings sent via email. If you are not ready to contact an agent right now, at least start looking so you can jump in when ready to call or email us. We are proud to say firstweber.com features not just our listings, but listings all across the state in 5 MLS systems. It is a great place to start! Monday, September 15. 2008

Comments (0) Trackbacks (0) The "National foreclosure crisis" isn't really national. When you hear national news of soaring forclosures, do you think Wisconsin is in the same boat? Although Wisconsin foreclosures are up, 3 states account for more than half the foreclosures in the United States. This is an insightful article on the subject. Tuesday, September 9. 2008
