SUPPORT OUR TROOPS. The Lake Country office of First Weber is involved with Homes for Our Troops to provide a home for SPC Jason Schulz. The office is also collecting used cell phones for CELL PHONES FOR SOLDIERS. This organization sends the used phones to RECellular, which pays Cell Phones for Soldiers for each donated phone - enough to provide an hour of talk time to soldiers abroad. If you'd like to show your support for our brave service people who risk their lives to keep us safe, you may drop off your old phone at First Weber's Lake Country Office located at 2750 Golf Road, Delafield, by February 15 to the attention of Roxanne Platz. Thanks to Roxanne for heading up this worthy cause.

Wisconsin Rapids Office Builds Snow Sculpture for FundraiserThe Wisconsin Rapids office participated in the 5th Annual Snow Sculpture on Saturday, a First Weber Group Foundation-sponsored event benefiting the South Wood County Humane Society. Real estate snow-artists Keith Wilkes, Nate Weidman, Sherrie Hahn, Mike Spranger, Dawn Spranger and Brian Slinkman joined forces to build one of 15 sculptures in the event. Keith Wilkes organized this activity for the Rapids office, as he is involved with the Humane Society. Looks like it was fun! I've seen ice scultpures before but never a block of snow that big. Some snow sculpture participants probably struggled with "what should I carve?" The gang here sculpted what they know - houses. Good job to the Wisconsin Rapids office and the First Weber Foundation. This goes to show you can certainly have fun while doing a good deed.

Congratulations to Amy Curler of First Weber's West Bend office on the personal writeup on jsonline. In addition to selling real estate, Amy works with teens and has traveled to assist with Hurricane Katrina rebuilding projects. There's more to the nice story here. Good job of giving back, Amy!

Impressive! First Weber Group's 2009 United Way campaign raised $29,247 in total agent/employee/corporate donations with an additional $3,484 coming from Oshkosh, Prairie du Sac, Rome Lakes, Wisconsin Rapids, Wausau Grand Avenue, Wisconsin Dells and Metro South for a statewide total of $32,731. That is fantastic, especially in this economy. That participation won First Weber some awards, too: Red Feather (largest increase in employee giving) 3rd place in organizations with 100+ employees Community Chest Award (largest increase in employee and corporate giving) #10 in organizations with 100+ employees Best Practices Award (given to organizations that execute all of the 10 best practice strategies and have an overall increase in giving) Award of Distinction (campaigns that increased 25% this year) The United Way of Dane County met their 2009 campaign goal of $16.5 million to help those in Dane County. We're happy to be a part of that goal.

Helping out with a Habitat for Humanity house is one way First Weber's North Shore office is giving back to the community. As we just enjoyed Thanksgiving, it seems an appropriate time to post pictures of First Weber agents helping others achieve the most basic of human needs: shelter.

We at First Weber Group hope you are thankful for the home you have!

The First Weber Tomah crew and family went door to door collecting items for the local food pantry. Armed with shopping carts, pushing them up and down the street they were able to collect approximately 400 lbs. of food. It was lots of fun and they were well received by all they met along the way. Sounds like fun! A great idea getting the whole family involved too. Thanks to all who participated by gathering food, and of course, donating food.

"Project Gratitude"... a fitting title for a worthy cause! Join the West Bend office of First Weber Group in their fourth year of "Project Gratitude" in which the agents provide Thanksgiving food baskets to families of Boys and Girls Club members. According to Terri Fredrich, manager of the West Bend First Weber office, there are 1600 members in the Boys and Girls club of Washington County. Last year, the office's goal was to provide Thanksgiving meals to 80 families. Thanks to generous donations, they exceeded that goal and were able to provide meals for 125 families! This year, the goal is 125 families. The cost to provide each meal is approximatley $30. If you are interested in participating or donating, please contact Terri Fredrich at 262-478-5610. Any participation is most welcome! I certainly hope they are able to meet or exceed their goal again. Update to come after Thanksgiving! Here's a link to the West Bend office - maybe you know some of the agents - click into their profile and send them an email!

There's a noble organization called Homes for our Troops which builds entire homes and adapts homes for severely injured veterans. First Weber Group in Southeastern Wisconsin is participating in a project to build a new home for SPS Jason Schultz who served our country and was injured on duty. We've raised almost $11,000 for the construction of Jason's home - but much more is needed and the excavation and foundation work began this week. Some of what is still needed are appliances, siding, finish carpentry and well installation. More information on how to participate and offer your services are here at the Project Update page for SPC Jason Schultz. According to Bob Larson, who spearheaded the campaign for First Weber, this is how he and his team raised the funds: The Waukesha Office did a letter campaign to the agent's contacts making them aware of the cause and asking for $1.00 donations. If each of us donated $1, think of the difference that could be made. We literally had donations of $50 checks and everything in between! The agent that collected the most was Dan Stair with $706.00!!! We had a "Social" fund raiser at Rookies in Milwaukee. We had solicited funds from First Weber agents through group emails Carl Munkwitz also solicited building supplies and services through the First Weber Concierge Service.
Utmost thanks to Bob Larson of First Weber's Waukesha office for spearheading this worthy project. Here's a previous blog entry on the Homes for our Troops project. If you would like to contribute dollars, please contact blarson at firstweber dot com and.... thanks for reading. Your comments and ideas are always welcome

Across Wisconsin you can find quaint towns and a sense of history. Going on next weekend is a Historic Home Tour in Racine, Wisconsin. Here the Racine Journal Times wrote a nice article describing the event.
John Crimmings, Manager of First Weber's Racine office, also contributes his thoughts toward the event here:
"Preservation Racine's Tour of Historic Places is as much a part of Autumn in Racine as is the changing trees and falling leaves. This really is a tradition that has met with tremendous success over the years. Each year hundreds of people take part in the tour and enjoy a beautiful Fall afternoon. This year they are concentrating on College Avenue, the last cobblestone street in the city. Racine's Southside is part of the largest Historic District in the State of Wisconsin. It features many spectacular homes that have been restored and refurbished and are excellent examples of the quality of years gone by. On further note, specific to First Weber. Our office has always been supportive of Preservation Racine and we have served as a ticket outlet for this great event for as long as I can remember. One person within our Company, however, deserves to be recognized for her continued efforts in local preservation. Pat Murphy, a salesperson for over 35 years, continues to spearhead support for Preservation Racine and has really become the public persona of that organization and this wonderful event. There really is no way to properly thank Pat for her efforts but Racine residents, and others alike, need to know how proud we are to have Pat as part of our team."
If you like history and are in the Racine area, stop in the First Weber office (1100 N. Main) to pick up your tickets for the tour which runs Sept 27 noon - 5:30 p.m.

It feels good to share good news about First Weber people who make a mark for themselves by doing more than expected. Sometimes that is real estate related, sometimes not. Some people try to make a difference and stop for one reason or another, and some people keep going because it is part of who they are.
This is not a press release - it is about a person. A person who happens to be with First Weber Group and who was recently recognized for Distinguished Service to the Wisconsin REALTORS Association at the 2009 WRA Annual Convention. His name is Ron Zahrt. (The one front and center wearing orange in the picture) Ron has been in real estate for 29 years +. He is President and owner/partner with First Weber Group Northern Wisconsin LLC, and sells/manages in the Wausau area. He's got a litany of credentials, which I will list press release style, after injecting my opinion Ron is that the kind of guy you would like to have as your neighbor. OK, here's the list of some of what Ron Zahrt has done to get this award: serving as Past President of the Central Wisconsin Multiple Listing Service, multiple terms on the Board of Directors of the Central Wisconsin Board of REALTORS and positions on numerous WRA committees. He is a member of the Wausau Early Bird Rotary Club and Employers in Support of the Guard and Reserves; he has been a United Way Volunteer of the Year in Marathon County, Wisconsin; and Ron is also a cancer survivor who represents Congressional District 7 in the American Cancer Society's Action Council. There are a few points, I guess. One, congratulations to Ron. Two, real estate is sold by people, to people and is really all about connecting to people through actions, which Ron does. And three, First Weber Group is happy to have him on our team, making us a better company. Three Cheers for Ron!

First Weber Group of Southeastern Wisconsin had their annual golf outing August 17 and raised over $1900 for the First Weber Foundation in their "Fun Day for the Foundation" event. Approximately 90 of 110 golfers purchased wristbands that allowed them to participate in contests on the course. Money from the wristband sales goes to the First Weber Foundation which supports Wisconsin housing related charities and other charities supported by First Weber agents through a matching funds program.
Thank you to all who participated in the event! What looked to be a very stormy day turned out beautifully. Here are a few pictures of the event:
