July’s sales fell in many counties, Milwaukee included. This fall was not a surprise, but a result of closings pushed forward into the year due to the tax credit which expired in April. 2010. Comparing this autumn’s Milwaukee County real estate sales to last year is an impossible comparison – last fall the tax credit was in full swing. 396 homes closed in Milwaukee County in July versus 896 last July.
It is interesting to note that while the tax credit did save buyers money on the purchase of a home, the incredibly low interest rates now essentialy do the same thing, if not save them more!
The chart below tracks the median sale price in Milwaukee County month by month. This has remained relatively steady.
