At first, this seems a bit surprising with our winters, but based on 84 factors ranked by the Milken Institute, Madison comes out on top for cities to age in out of over 350 cities evaulated.
Things that came into consideration were crime rates, weather, health care, economic conditions and social/arts scene.
Note, this study is not necessarily saying Madison is the best place to RETIRE, but a place where there are plenty of activities, access to health care and a good economic climate for people to remain engaged and happy as they age…They just might jump on a place to Arizona or Florida once a winter.
Another nice thing about Madison is the variety of housing. There are plenty of places for those getting older to downsize to, if needed. Maybe an accessibile condo community, maybe a high rise downtown amidst the action, maybe just stay where they are. You can see real estate for sale in Madison, Wisconsin at firstweber.com
