You’ve decided to buy a home, have been preapproved and know what you can afford. Now comes the fun part: searching, and finding, the right property for you.
What are you looking for? Narrow it down.
You’ll save time if you have a good idea what you are looking for. A condo or a single family home? One story or two? Which county? And in that county, which communities are a good fit? You can get research information on hundreds of communities across Wisconsin, including schools and neighborhood amenities like nearby retail, parks and recreation, right here: Wisconsin community information. In terms of home features, decide on what is important to you and what features would be nice to have, but you could live without.
Choose your favorite websites and apps
Search at the site of your choice. Realtor.com is a reputable site that’s national. For locally controlled Wisconsin real estate info (read accurate and up-to-date), may we suggest firstweber.com? (Or our apps which let you draw your own search area and get real-time information on the real estate market in the area you are searching in.) You can download them here:
Our agents websites are kept just as up-to-date as the main website. And, an important consideration: our sites and apps include listings of other participating MLS brokers across the state so you get ALL the listings, not just ours or not just a sampling.
Attend open Houses and request private showings
Open houses are a great way to get a feel for the home and the neighborhood. But, you don’t have to wait for an open house. Make an appointment with your real estate agent. Your First Weber agent is able to show you any home on the market, even if it is listed with another real estate company. (Exceptions may be listings with Limited Service Brokers in which the seller often handles their own showings.)
Be prepared to make an offer when you find “the one”
This is where things get kind of complicated. The legal documents, the negotiations, deadlines…sign here and here and here. But this is also where your agent really shines by guiding you through all this confusing and unfamiliar territory. They do it everyday. Trust them and listen.
