It is always good to know what is current in home design – so that if you are considering a remodel you can take the trends into account when planning your updates. Here are some of the latest design trends we are seeing or hearing about.
Shiplap
Thanks to Fixer Upper Joanna Gaines, shiplap is getting very popular. It can add country charm anywhere in the home.
Barn Doors
These are very versatile and can be anything from real old barn doors to sleek ones made out of modern materials. They are dramatic and space saving… and trending.
Open shelving
This trend has been around a while. Some people love it, others don’t. It is suited to a more minimalist approach in the kitchen where “stuff” is minimized and easily within reach. Another benefit of open shelving is the cost savings of not having to purchase expensive kitchen cabinets.
Statement mirror
These can really set the mood in a small space such as a hallway or powder room. They can easily be swapped out around the house, too, when a fresh look is desired.
Two Tone kitchens
Spice things up with a mixed look in the kitchen. Mabe an island of a different color or texture. Or vary the tones of the upper and lower cabinets/ Sometimes an all white kitchen can be “too white” and this can be a great way to add some personality to your kitchen.
Charging stations and USB outlets
It’s the little things that can make a big difference. People are using their phones/devices more and more to manage household activities from looking up a recipe/viewing a cooking video, accessing the house temperature controls/lighting and more. Devices need to be close by, charged and neatly kept. Charging stations and installing usb outlets throughout the house is a trend that has become widespread.
