It does NOT mean they made a million dollars. Yes, real estate can be a highly profitable career, but the statement “million dollar month” means they sold one million dollars worth of real estate/volume in that month. We have many agents who have million dollar + months on a regular basis and depending on the home values this could be selling just one or two homes. Often, there are 4 million dollar months and up.
Most people really don’t understand how a real estate agent is paid. In a nutshell, agents work on commission and do not get paid anything until they close a sale. This could take many months! The commission is then split a number of ways, typically divided up into 2 or 4 parts, depending on the number of parties in the transaction.
If you thought agents made millions and want to try it for yourself- sorry to burst that bubble. However, hardworking agents make very good money for themselves, especially after developing their clientele.
