According to a recent National Association of Realtors Investment and Vacation Home Buyers Survey:

16% of homes sold in 2015 were vacation homes. Of those, 58% were single family homes, 25% condominiums.

Median price up 25% to $192,000

38% of vacation home purchasers paid cash.

Median distance from home: 200 miles

One third of vacation home buyers will use it for vacations, 16% plan for the vacation home to become their primary residence in the future, 7% bought for potential income through renting the property out.
