Home Selling as a Senior Citizen

March 18, 2019

The situation for many senior homeowners in Wisconsin could go something like this:

They’ve lived in the same home for 40 years, had children, raised the family, attended block parties and made lifelong friends with the neighbors.  But now the home upkeep is too much – the family home is just too large, or health is failing and a move is necessary.

Maybe moving in with the kids is an option. Or maybe to an assisted living facility is more appropriate. Maybe it’s just time to move to a place where you can golf daily, after having endured years and years of Wisconsin winters.

Whatever the situation, moving as a senior citizen has its unique challenges for both the seniors themselves and family members or friends who are helping.

Some of those challenges could be:

  • Deferred maintenance or lack of updating to the home
  • Removal of a lifetime of possessions
  • Lack of knowledge about the real estate process – it’s been 40 years since they’ve been through a move!
  • Finding a new place to live
  • Emotional distress at moving and leaving the home
  • Disbelief about property value – the home is worth WHAT?!
  • Finding the right agent to help

Did you know that there are real estate agents who specialize in helping seniors sell real estate?  They are trained to help seniors and family/friends sort out the many details in a real estate transaction.  Trained to help the senior deal with the emotional issues of leaving a long-time home and finding a new place to live.

So if you are selling Wisconsin real estate as a senior – or helping someone through the process – please check out the First Weber agents who have the SRES designation (Senior Real Estate Specialist) or the CSS designation (Certified Senior Specialist).

These agents have the training and the resources to be of great assistance in the process.  You can search for agents with those designations/credentials at First Weber’s Find an agent page.

First Weber Group also offers a Concierge service which can help locate services needed: lawn maintenance, storage, cleaning etc.
