Spring Refresh

March 20, 2023

The long and dreaded Wisconsin winter is (hopefully) almost over. Start spring off with these 6 steps to freshen up your home, including a spring cleaning checklist!

Let the Light and Air In.

Open the curtains and let the light shine throughout your home. After months of being cooped up for winter, get some fresh air in your home by opening up your windows. Even if it is still chilly out, open the windows for 10 minutes and feel how refreshed the inside gets.

Spring Clean and Declutter.

Here is a sweet and simple checklist for cleaning your home for spring. Even for those that may find this job more dreadful, these are tasks that you don’t have to set aside a ton of time to do.

☐ Remove all rugs, take them outside, and shake them out.

☐ Vacuum all carpeted floor areas.

☐ Mop all floors.

☐ Remove clutter from surfaces, wipe down, and dust everything.

☐ Clean windows

☐ Tidy up drawers, entryways, and bathrooms.

☐ Go through closets and shelves (get rid of the stuff you have been hanging onto, but you know you won’t use it anymore).

Add Some Nature

Plants and flowers can freshen up space, improve air quality and reduce stress. Add some colorful flowers to your kitchen table or maybe some succulents (a low-maintenance plant). You could also make an indoor garden or start planning an outdoor garden.

Add Fresh Colors and Décor

A fresh new look may be what your home needs this spring. You don’t have to go into a big transformation and spend tons of money here either, there are little things you can do for a refresh. Neutral colors are always good, but you can also try adding pops of bright colors to go with spring. Here are some additional things you could add or swap out.

  • Throw pillows
  • Blankets
  • Lighter colored curtains
  • New linens
  • New rugs
  • Swap out lampshades
  • Swap out artwork

And remember you don’t have to do all these things. Picking one or two will still feel refreshing.

Freshen Up Your Outdoor Spaces.

Get your outdoor spaces ready for the warmer weather and then you may find yourself using them more if you don’t already. Clean up the porch and deck areas and add places to sit if you need. You can also add potted plants to this area.

Spring Fragrances.

Scents can have a psychological effect on our well-being without us realizing it. Ways that you can add some spring scents to your home are candles, air fresheners, and flowers. Opening your windows as talked about before, is another great way to let the fresh nature smells in. Here are some scents to look for this spring:

  • Lavender
  • Lemon
  • Lilac
  • Honeysuckle
  • Mandarin
  • Anything with floral notes

Bonus Tip: if you have the time and money, pick something that you have been wanting to do with your house and do it. Maybe adding a fresh coat of paint to a room, rearranging furniture, updating furniture, updating appliances, new flooring, or new light fixtures. Do something for yourself that will make you happy this spring.
