It seems like everyone who vacations in the Northwoods says they want to move here. But in reality, most just go back to their hectic lives in the city and forget about the Northwoods until their next vacation. And that’s a good thing. If you all moved here, the rest of us would just have to move farther north.
You see, if you want to live ‘up north’ there are a few things you have to learn and a few things you will have to give up. Here’s a couple examples:
-
You can’t tailgate. There are no traffic jams or rush hours here and if you are late getting to your destination everyone understands. You probably had to stop along the way to take a picture of the bear and her cubs sitting on the side of the road.
-
You have to give up your designer clothes and high heels and invest in some flannel shirts, boots and long underwear. It’s always boot weather up here.
-
You’ll need to know how to fix your own plumbing. If you have a problem during hunting season, fishing season, football season, etc there will not be a plumber available; at least until they got their deer or the Packer game is over.
-
Everything you need to buy is available at the local Wal-mart, and if they don’t have it, you don’t need it here.
So if you want to move up north, you have to slow down first. If you need to work, you will probably not find a job that pays nearly as much as you made in the city. But what you get in exchange is a laid back lifestyle, a safe and friendly community and some of the most stunning scenery you will ever see.
