Downtown Wausau is alive and vibrant with multiple free concerts sponsored by Wausau Area Events. Wausau boasts one of the only free concert series in the state with all funding raised by local residents. The concerts are held on Wednesday evenings from 6pm to 8pm and are widely attended by local residents. The 400 Block as is it known is the place to be on Wednesday evenings in the summer . Additional events in Wausau include a Hot Air Balloon rally and glow, Chalkfest, Blues fest and more.

Wausau proper is has a population of approximately 39,000 people with a Metropolitan Service area of approximately 134,000 people. Wausau is located in Marathon County.
Housing
The Wausau area has multiple housing types from stately mansions built by the original lumber barons that first inhabited the area, to
newer mixed housing with newer developments scattered throughout the area. Weston, a part of the community has been named one of the fastest growing areas of the state.
The average price of a home sold in Marathon County thus far in 2011 is $129,364. Currently there are 1514 homes for sale in the county with prices ranging from $29,900 to $1,750,000. Home sales are showing a gain over prior years sales.
Schools The area is well known for its great school and teachers offering quality education. Check out the Wausau school district web site. There are currently 15 elementary schools, 3 middle schools and 4 high schools in the district.
Things to do
Things to do in the Wausau area vary by season with Granite Peak Ski hill a major winter attraction.
The area features a international quality canoe and Kayak course in downtown Wausau in Whitewater Park.
This course attracts competiors from across the nation and internationally.
Wausau features many excellent dining experiences from the City Grille Bistro located in downtown Wausau, to many of the major restaurant chains and multiple locally run restaurants. There is no lack of places to go and see on your visit to the area.
In early September, Wausau becomes artrageous for the annual Internationally known Birds in Art show held at the Leigh Yawkey Art Museum. The downtown becomes an art fair with multiple artists of all types displaying their art and Marathon Park becomes a art show with a large number of items on display and for sale. There is live music and the festive spirit takes over the whole area. Come join the fun.
