Area supply of homes for sale still low in Dane County. Sellers: List now for less competition

January 16, 2014

Traditionally, the summer is the popular time for moving; the kids are out of school, the weather is nice. But if you’re planning to buy a home this year in Dane County, you may want to start looking sooner rather than later.

It’s definitely a seller’s market right now, some seeing multiple offers in just a few days. Experts say buyers need to act quick and smart.

Supply is down and some sellers are taking advantage. “We definitely have a shortage for all of the buyers out there,” said Melissa Hanewicz with First Weber Group. In fact, November was the lowest supply of homes in Dane County in seven years, and those are going quick. Hanewicz added, “days on the market is generally 3 to 3 1/2 months.”

Some like this one in Verona. “What appeals to buyers right now is a place for families, teens, the man cave to watch the games,” said Sarah Deischer from First Weber Group. It’s expected to sell quick with multiple offers. One main reason, lack of competition nearby.
