6 ways to enhance your home this fall selling season

October 24, 2017

This has been a very busy fall selling season.  Buyers are still out in force and competing for homes.  Your price still must be right – even in a hot market.  And, it is important to still take the time to present your home in its best light.

Here are some ideas to enhance your home during the fall market:

Fall is for fireplaces

Many homeowners love having a fireplace. Have it cleaned/serviced so it is ready to pass the test of a  home inspection. You should not light a fire before leaving for your showings, but you could talk to your agent about how you start a fire in case he/she would like to have one during an open house – what a warm welcome that would be.  Top your fireplace mantle with a little bit of seasonal decoration but don’t over load it.

Seasonal decorations by the front door.  We’re not talking scary halloween graveyard displays – simple & natural arrangements of mums and fall gourds/pumpkins is the look you want to shoot for.

Lighting

This time of year it gets dark earlier. Be sure to put your porch lights & exterior lights on.  Light up every room in the house for a welcoming feel. No one wants to explore a strange home in the dark.

Entryways

Make sure these areas are free of extra coats and boots.  You may hang your coats by hooks near the back door for everyday living, but now it is time to use those coat closets so the entryways are clean.

Heat

Fall is the time that people often struggle with “I don’t want to turn on the heat just yet” feelings.  You may not want to start paying for heat early in the season, but warm equals welcome. Don’t make your visitors uncomfortable during their showing, turn the heat on/up.

Leaves

Raking/blowing leaves is a part of life in Wisconsin. Make the time to clean your yard and driveway before open houses and showings.  Buyers will appreciate seeing a clean yard, especially if the other yards in the neighborhood are covered in leaves. They will also not look all around grimacing at the thought of having to rake all those leaves next season.
