Outdoor Living Space Ideas: Create Your Own Outdoor Retreat This Spring

With warmer days approaching, the outdoor season is finally around the corner. Now is the perfect time to make some updates so you can make the most of your outdoor spaces. Find out what is trending right now and other ideas on how to create joy and serenity in your yard for a personal retreat to optimize happiness, health, and connection.

Clean up your Yard & Find Inspiration

Start by cleaning up the space and doing some yard work. Mow the lawn, pull weeds, and trim the bushes. All of this put together can already make a big difference in the way your yard feels. Then find some inspiration in what brings you peace. Decorate your yard in what you consider relaxing.

Create Privacy

Add a fence or wall for some privacy. There are many different ideas you could go with here; one idea is to use a wooden wall as an attractive backsplash to an entertainment area and use plantings to pick up the privacy where the wall leaves off.

Provide Shade & Cover

Pergolas, gazebos, and patio umbrellas are great options to provide shade and a cozier space for you and your guests to hang out. This is also a great area to hang lights on and around to use the space when it gets dark out.

Create levels

If you have the availability for this, create a multilevel outdoor living space. This can provide more options for separate areas to entertain, dine, and relax.

Create Comfortability

Think about appealing to all five of the senses. Create a comfortable atmosphere using water features, wind chimes, and outdoor speakers. Think of planting flowers in pots for different scents. Create comfortable places to sit with outdoor furniture, pillows, and rugs. Hang a hammock between trees, attached to a pergola, or use a hammock stand.

Include Styles, Patterns, and Colors

And of course, be creative with it. Add pops of bright colors and patterns seen on outdoor pillows, rugs, and whatever else you may find. Make the space one you love to encourage the use of a functional oasis in your backyard.
